How to Play and Enjoy Roulette
One of the unsung games here at Jackpot Capital online casino is roulette. Since we are a leading mobile jackpot casino, we offer about 300 games. You can play all of them over time from the comfort of your cozy couch, bed, or on your veranda of a perfect evening.
We find that roulette is one of the games that may be too confusing for some players. After all, the table is not linear; it doesn’t run the numbers in a straight line from 1 to 36.
So, in an effort to make gaming at Jackpot Capital as fun and exciting as possible, we here present a short course on the wonderful game of roulette.
The Cloudy History of Roulette
As the name indicates, there is no doubt of a solidly French ancestry to the game we call roulette. It may just be an historical legend that the famed mathematician Blaise Pascal discovered the roulette wheel in his experiments looking for a perpetual motion machine.
This is likely just a myth since the essence of roulette and specifically of the roulette wheel is that it is decidedly not a perpetual motion machine! If it were, there would be no game!
Was Roulette Invented in China?
Here is another story with a broad element of myth to it. In this tale, a small group of monks, interested in all aspects of Chinese culture, took back to Europe a Chinese game in which 35 or 37 figurines had to be arranged in some order.
As the story goes, the monks turned the square area that the Chinese game was played on into a round area and later a wheel. This story falls apart when it says that the monks also added the 0. This puts paid to the story since in its earliest form French roulette had both 0 and 00 as in the later American version.
And the search for the game’s origins goes on!

The Roman Connection
A Roman soldier’s lot was no Sunday picnic! So, they were allowed to play games. One game involved using a chariot wheel. Proof that roulette originated in ancient Rome? We think not!
The life of a Greek soldier left a lot to be desired as well. So maybe they invented a chariot wheel game! Maybe not!
The European and the French Connections
We do know that there were two popular games in Europe in the 16th and 17th centuries that used a wheel. They were called roly-poly and even-odd. The even-odd bets in roulette no doubt stem from these games.
Gambling was illegal in most of Europe in these years so the two games were just games but in the latter part of the 18th century gambling became legal with a lot of regulation.
Prince Charles of little Monaco had financial problems and didn’t want his small principality to be swallowed up by either Italy or France. Such a maneuver on the part of either country would have led to a border war in which the Monacan citizens would have suffered the most. So Prince Charles opened a few casinos in Monaco that featured roulette.
This made roulette a favorite game of European royalty and business elite of the latter 18th century. Today Monaco is still the casino Mecca of elites while Las Vegas is the gambling Mecca of the hoi-polloi and online gaming is the favorite way for millions of average people worldwide to play casino games at their leisure!
The game of roulette became exponentially more popular when the 00 slot was removed. This move alone reduced the house edge by half!
There are Many Bets in Roulette
If you plan on playing only even money bets, play French roulette which has a feature called en prison in which losing even money bets are allowed to run again at no risk to the player. This reduces the house edge by a half less than in standard European roulette.
French roulette allows players to play roulette for a long time at very little risk as long as they stick to even money bets!
Take a Look at the Roulette Table
The first thing to see is that there are three even money bets. You can go even- odd; black or red, and 1-18 or 19-36. The even-odd and black-red bets cannot be contradictory but the 1-18 and 19-36 bets can be contradictory.
The next set of bets is on twelve numbers: first twelve; second twelve; and third twelve. So if you bet 1-18, you should never bet on the third twelve. In fact, you should also not bet on the middle twelve since you could win one bet and lose the other!
Similarly, if you bet 1-18, you should never bet on a combination of numbers that are all in the second half of the numbers! This too contradicts the 1-18 bet!
How Does Roulette Align the Numbers?
Now, take a look at how the numbers are aligned. The numbers are laid out in short rows of three. So, in the row by row format, the numbers do run linearly. But in the columns the numbers run 1-4-7 and so on in the first column; 2-5-8 and so on in the second column; and 3-6-9 and so on in the third column.
Lines and Corners
You can place a bet by putting a chip on either a line or on a corner. Here are a few examples:
- If you place the chip on the line between the 1 and the 4, you are betting that the ball will land on one of those numbers.
- If you place the chip on the line between the 1 and the 1st twelve, you are betting on the 1-2-3 row.
- If you place the chip on the corner between the 1-2-4-5, you are betting on those numbers.
- If you place the chip on the line that connects the 1-2-3 row with the 4-5-6 row, you are betting on those six numbers.
Embrace Exciting Roulette
Roulette is a very exciting game whether you play it online or at a land based casino. Although slots, blackjack, video poker and other games are also very popular at Jackpot Capital, there is a growing group of dedicated roulette players who found the game as they were cruising the casino!
Cruising an online casino means playing as many games as possible over time. This is next to impossible to do at a land based casino as players have to give up their seat every time they change games.
