An Inordinary Desert of Burning

Burning Man was first held in 1986, on Baker Beach in San Francisco. During that summer of 86’, Larry Harvey, one of the festival’s founders, and a couple of his friends built an 8-feet-tall wooden statue of a man. It wasn’t until 1991 that the project moved to Nevada’s Black Rock desert, where an estimate of 250 people showed up for Burning Man’s first year outside California.
